So you’re in the middle of Indiana and don’t know what to do. Indianapolis is a beautiful city filled with awesome places to walk around and look at the beautiful architecture. Here are some cool things I found while visiting.

1.Monument Circle

Monument Circle is downtown Indianapolis with games, food trucks, and this beautiful monument in the center. There is a fountain surrounding it and it has beautiful architecture. You can buy some snacks or just enjoy the activities. There were ping pong tables, giant lego blocks, and even free postcards. We got to color our own postcards and send them wherever we wanted for free. There was also a station to rent board games for free.

2.Bicentennial Unity Plaza

You can get a good workout in at the Bicentennial Unity Plaza downtown Indiana. There is a full basketball court equipped with lots of basketballs. There is also complimentary water from a Gatorade cooler and restrooms. The bathrooms are pretty standard for public restrooms, nothing special.

This park is very beautiful with murals and the large silver arch at the entrance. There is also the famous “Indy” sign where you pose as the “I” in “Indy”. As well, there are many small tables and seating to hang out at if you are not a fan of basketball. The location is super convenient especially if you are already downtown.

3.Virginia Fairbanks Art and Nature Park

This is the coolest outdoor park I have ever been to. There are huge art sculptures everywhere. There was a huge skeleton that was in the ground and you could jump on the bones. Also, there was this underground tunnel that brought you to a secret garden. There’s a big lake in the middle for fishing too.

There is lots of parking and it is in a secluded place. It is not downtown but it is in Indianapolis. I would suggest wearing some bug spray since it is a nature path in the woods to each interactive sculpture. There are public bathrooms too, that are quite fancy. This spot is great for kids and getting outdoors.

4. Cultural Trail

The Cultural Trail goes all the way around and through Indianapolis. There isn’t really a formal starting point but it is a good way to get into the downtown area. We parked at a little shopping center and took the trail into the city. So we got free parking but had to have a nice walk through the city.

This is a pretty huge trail. If you make it all the way around the trail, good for you. I would maybe try to bike the trail because walking would take all day. It’s also not very scenic.

5. Capital Tour

I think all tours of capital buildings are free. You should really check out this building. There are free tours or you can just walk around for fun. The rooms are super cool to go into and there’s not a lot of people in there. The hours are 9-5 on weekdays. Indiana was also going through a heatwave so it’s a nice way to get into some air conditioning and use clean bathrooms.
