Okay so I have like no kitchen in this thing. My kitchen consists of a one burner butane stove, a 5 liter tub of water, a small table, and a bucket of pantry items. I have no fridge or oven so let me tell you my plan.
Cooking on the Stove
So I love warm food so I think I will be utilizing my stove at least once a day. I am vegetarian so I don’t need to cook any meat which usually takes a long time. I’ll be making a lot of soups, pasta, or just frying some veggies up in the pan. Those one pot recipes are going to be my forte considering I literally only have one pot. That’s all the warm food I can eat I guess.
Too Good To Go
As a firm lover of warm food, I will be getting a lot of Too Good to Go . So this is a good waste prevention app, that is super cheap. You can get a couple meals from a fun new restaurant for like $5.99. The prices vary of course, but I usually get one $6 order and it fills up me and my boyfriend. I mean that’s like close to the price of groceries for already prepared foods. It’s essentially the leftovers of restaurants, and instead of throwing them away they go to you.
The Fridge Situation
I have no fridge. In fact, I have no electrical in my van. It was too complicated to figure out so I was like I can go without it. I think I’ll be okay though, I just need to focus on pantry items. Canned food and pantry are my only source of cooking. I gotta be careful with canned stuff to watch my sodium intake. Dried goods as a nuts, lentils, beans, and pastas will be easy. There are also food bags that I just tried that are full meals and you don’t need to refrigerate them. Simply, just boil the package and it ready to go. The ones from Casa Verde are good and I posted on my Insta about them too if you want to see how it works. As well, there are a lot of fruits and veggies that you don’t need to refrigerate but we are told to anyways. Check out the non-fridge foods.
Rain
If it’s raining, it will be tough to cool outside. I can’t cook inside because I’ll die from the stove fumes. I guess I could find a park or some sort of pavilion to go underneath. I’m not afraid of fast food though. I love Taco Bell so much. Getting fresh groceries could be an easy solution too. Like I can eat a salad right after buying it, just can’t keep it because no fridge.
Conclusion
Honestly it’s going to be tough without a fridge. Hopefully I don’t become malnourished, but whatever we’ll adjust accordingly. I will have an awesome time with my one burner stove and water tank.
